One Time
Many of our customers need a dumpster temporarily. They have a project to complete. Take some time to think through the project in your mind. That will help determine the size of the dumpster you’ll need and how long you’ll need it.
Regular
Of course, many businesses and some individuals need a dumpster not for a one-time project but for regular service. Try to estimate how often you’ll need your dumpster to be taken out. If you’ve never done this before or you’re unsure, the friendly staff at Yankee will be happy to help you estimate how often you’ll need trash removed based on the size of your building, the nature of what it does, and the number of people who contribute waste.
What’s Your Throwaway Plan?
Before your dumpster arrives, it’s best to know what you’ll be tossing. Obviously, you don’t need an itemized list, but what’s your plan?
For example, if you have an entire house you have to go through, do you plan to keep anything? Do you want to have it sorted out before we get there?
You don’t need to have everything divided into keep, donate and toss piles before we arrive, but you should make a general plan about whether you are going to sort or whether you’re going to remove it all. Will you need help with moving heavier items? Having these questions answered will help you to have a good experience.
Know What You Can and Can’t Throw Away
Part of your plan should know what can and can’t go in your dumpster rental. If you don’t want to take the time to sort your items, there is quite a bit that you can throw away, but there are a few things you can’t.
We blogged about this before, so we won’t go into too much detail here, but in general, if it’s toxic or dangerous, you shouldn’t put it in a dumpster. The goal is to keep people safe. Check your local regulations to be sure.

If you’ve taken the time to answer the first questions and come up with your throwaway plan, hopefully, right now, you have a decent idea about how long you’ll need your dumpster. Where Would You Like Your Dumpster?
The question of where to place your dumpster is less academic than it might appear. The driveway is often the most obvious choice because that will prevent you from killing grass or other plants.
But it would help if you also considered how convenient the dumpster will be to what you’re doing. You’re renting a dumpster because you have a lot to throw away, so presumably, you will be making several trips to it. Try to situate it in a way that doesn’t require you to walk as far or navigate through small spaces or corners while carrying heavy trash.
What If You Need Your Dumpster Rental Longer?
You know what they say about the best-laid plans of mice and men, right? Luckily for you, if something comes up you haven’t anticipated and your plans change, it’s easy to make adjustments.
For example, if your dumpster fills up earlier than you thought it would, but you still have more to throw away, let Yankee know, and we’ll exchange it.
